Time Warp?

Had to wake up super early this morning to get my return flight home. Not sure if we were in a time warp but certainly a warped time. After our highway incident, Joe picked us up & we went to dinner with he & Tricia in Baton Rouge. Then rented a car to New Orleans. Which means we didn't get home until 1:00am or so. Just bone weary... It was quite a weekend.

Jet Blue!

Currently at the BRAND NEW (2 days old) Jet Blue terminal at JFK. Wow... They nailed it. Sleek, sexy spaceport. And I am currently enjoying a Kobe beef steak. Nothing like a $38 entree at an airport...

Christmas Comes Early!!

Our dear friend Bruce has outdone himself.  I thought he had peaked when he sent me the pop-up "Moby Dick."  But then he got Matt & I tickets to see Colbert interviewed as part of the New Yorker Festival.  But NOW, a package arrived featuring this, an advanced copy DVD of "A Colbert Christmas" - Stephen Colbert's Christmas special that is not scheduled to air until late November!!  Wow...

A normal thank you didn't seem to suffice, so here is an excerpt from a thank you poem I just composed and sent to Bruce:

when what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but
"A Colbert Christmas" DVD, and I grinned ear-to-ear.
With a nice little note, written on a Post-It.
I was so thrilled, I did nearly sh*t.

There's a picture of Stephen, that jolly old elf
And I laughed when I saw him in spite of myself.
In Bing Crosby sweater, and a sport coat of red
Stephen is smoking a pipe, with perfect hair on his head.

A preview copy of his Special - the PERFECT gift
I can't tell you in words, what a tremendous lift
to my spirits this is, you dear sweet man
"
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Signed,
Colbert's #1 Fan."

Well done, Bruce.  Thank you so very much.

"A Man for All Seasons"

Went to the Opening Night performance last night of Frank Langella in "A Man for All Seasons" - the morality play about Sir Thomas More.  Langella gave a commanding performance.  I think the Times review this morning gets it mostly right, but particularly in this passage:

Lord knows Mr. Langella doesn’t shirk his duties as the center of attention. It’s fun to watch him avert his eyes in contained distaste from the spectacle of his fellow mortals’ shortcomings or clutch the back of a chair to steady himself when receiving life-shattering information, the only betrayal that his equanimity has been shaken. On the few occasions when he raises his voice, you don’t doubt that Heaven can hear him. Such regal deportment evokes the days when grand stars like the Barrymores presided over plays.

We then retired to the Opening Night party at Espace, but stayed only a short time.  We were both tired, with a lot of work to do this week.  Plus our table mates spoke of nothing but the election & politics as soon as we sat down...  How rude.  But all in all, a wonderful evening...

Colbert!

Awesome....  A 90 minute interview with him out of character.  I asked the first (and best) question as well...  Then Matt S. & I retired to West Bank for dinner.
