Rose Bowl Bound!

so it looks like Penn State is Rose Bowl bound, which is a great season.  just wish we had beaten Iowa and were going to the National Championship.  but anyway...  still a great Bowl game.

Bob & Grant's friend Kim from the Adaptive Sports Foundation went to the Michigan State game and had front row seats.  (!!!)  She sent me a few pictures & I particularly liked this one of the Nittany Lion with roses.  Thanks, Kim!

We are...  Penn State.

Rosie

"Whole Lotta Rosie" by AC/DC.  Wow.  A great, big show.  A return to the concert excesses of the mid-1980's, replete with huge set pieces like a locomotive, a huge bell for "Hell's Bells" and this inflatable prostitute who tapped her hand and feet.  Awesome.  When we were leaving the show we noticed the 12 huge tractor-trailer rigs idling outside.  "Screw the environment!  Here's 90 minutes of full-throttle rock n' roll!"  A great concert.  Then saw Milo Z back in Manhattan.

A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!

As I have previously mentioned, our dear friend Bruce gave me an advanced copy of Stephen Colbert's Christmas special "A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!"  I watched it over the weekend in Florida - it is incredible.  I don't want to ruin any of the surprise guests - or songs - but I encourage you all to watch it this Sunday evening November 23rd.  Pure, unadulterated genius.

Kluge's New York Times Review (!!!)

Former professor, current & long-time friend, fellow traveler, and Flash-o-matic nemesis P.F. Kluge's new book "Gone Tomorrow" was reviewed favorably by Janet Maslin in the New York Times today. Perhaps you've heard of it...

Well done, Old Sport. Well done indeed...

Amtrak blows

So... I missed my train to Philly (by 1 minute) & traded my ticket in for the next available train. Got a "Business Class" seat, as it was merely $1 more than my Acela ticket. Walked the length of the train to "Business Class" which was just the same as every other car. The conductor asked me "Business class?" I responded, "Yes, but it looks the same as all the others." His response? "Well if it looks the same, then it's the same." Thanks. Glad I spent the extra money.

Also currently enjoying an uncontrollable sneezing fit / allergy attack. Why, in the wealthiest nation on earth, do we have to suffer an incredibly disappointing rail system? FRANCE has us beat by miles... Unacceptable.

Investigating a Ski Club

interesting...  Found out about this ski club from a guy in the McCain campaign.  It' s been around since the early '60's and seems interesting.  Will discuss with The Wife & perhaps head up a few times with them this Winter to try it on for size.  Sounds like it could be a nice way to shake our skiing up and get to Sugarbush / Stowe a few times!

McCain Motorcade & The Week in Review

Drove a vehicle in John McCain's motorcade leaving midtown Manhattan, right to the tarmac at Newark Airport. It was thrilling. Had a phalanx of Secret Service and police and drove down Manhattan streets and the Lincoln Tunnel at speeds heretofore achieved only in videogames. Here I am pictured doing my best "Junior G-Man."

It has been quite a week... In the space of one week I attended a prison rodeo at a maximum security state penitentiary in Louisiana, presented to the absolute top venture capital firm in the country, won "Best In Show" at a Halloween costume party, and drove a vehicle in a presidential candidate's motorcade.  Oh, and voted next to my favorite supermodel from adolescence.  Quite a week indeed...

Of course, I also thought my "Fillmore West to Fillmore East" trip was cool... My brother has gone, in the space of less than a week, from Angola (prison, in Louisiana) to "the real Angola", in Africa. Well done.

Halloween 2008

Went to the U. Club Halloween party that Peter & I co-Chaired. It was a raging success, smashing every previous attendance record. And I won "Best Costume." Again. I have never seen anyone dress as I did, and I had been working on assembling the costume for months. I went as an old-time Deep Sea Diver (like the guy at the bottom of a fish-tank, or a Scooby-Doo villian) and I had rigged up a bubble machine on my back to spew bubbles. Everyone loved it. More pictures of the gang HERE. A great evening...

Paulina!

I voted with Paulina Porizkova! Stop me if you've heard this one... "A Czech model & a Pole go in to a voting booth..."  Nothing like exercising your American right to vote with a Czech supermodel...

Sunday Visitors

Ren from Tokyo & Marvelous Matt came over to watch the Patriots game.

McCain Motorcade

Just drove a car in The Senator's motorcade.  It was a thrill.  Had to be up super early, but then a large phalanx of police and Secret Service took him from his midtown hotel to the tarmac at Newark airport.  Made great time and the show of force was impressive!

Marathon Mania

Up early & forgot about The Marathon this morning...
