Filming a movie

Blocked 5th ave. Off.  I was walking down the street, post U. Club roast... When I stumbled upon a movie shoot.

Movie is a live-action version of "Fantasia."  Saw a truck drag Nicolas Cage down 5th avenue in reverse, in a Pinto.  Thrice.

Allegedly, and more importantly, the movie also features Monica Bellucci.

It will be called "The Sorceror's Apprentice."  And has a $200mm budget.

Gano Wounds Arm(s)

Got an email from Gano entitled "Memorial Day my ass..." with this photo attached. Seems he has a hairline fracture near his left elbow and mangled / sprained / pulled the muscles in his right forearm by going over the handlebars of his bike. And is in a constant amount of significant pain.

Sadly, this is not up for Tommy consideration as he wounded himself trying not to crash in to Chloe. While mountain biking. Unfortunately, far too noble a cause to be considered. (not to mention that it was during exercise.)

But keep on manglin'!

...and STILL Champion!

had an email back & forth with Sugarpants, thereby inadvertently convening a quorum of The Tommy Award Nominating Committee, and he is ready to pronounce me the 2009 Winner for burning my paw in a bar stunt gone awry. (!!!)

I urged him to hold off, as there is still a lot of 2009 left but, as he wrote, ""Fire, booze, music, and women. And a slightly-torched paw. I mean......"

I guess, when he puts it that way... it really does have it all, doesn't it? I happen to think it's a new gold standard in Tommy-ism... (Made The Admiral weep with laughter. Repeatedly.)

Mark Twain

Was thinking about him today and would like everyone to spare a thought for him, as he is a primary personal hero of mine.  A new book of previously unpublished writings was recently released called "Who Is Mark Twain?" and so it set me wondering.  As the publisher Robert Miller correctly observed, "Twain's the grandfather of Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart and Steve Martin.  He has such a dry subversive wit that you feel like he's invented modern humor."

So true...  He also lived in Hartford - his house is The Best thing in Hartford (although it has fallen on hard times.  I just tried to link to it and the web site was, disconcertingly, in disarray.) and he was a member of the Players Club in New York, as I am now.  (Twain was kicked out of the Players for debts owed but was able to talk his way back in and even have his debts forgiven.  They are in possession of his card table.)

Here's to Mark Twain.

JOAN WINS!

Wow... So well done... Joan won the Celebrity Apprentice & The Wyfe and I could not be happier. We were pulling for her all season and are so proud. The Wyfe was on the edge of the couch yelling at the TV, "Yay Joan! Yay Joan!"

Well done, sweetie... Good triumphed over evil and you have more energy at 75 than most teenagers.

Congratulations!

Evel Thoughts

I was thinking today...  And would like to remind those who have looked askance at my singed paw that (tertiary personal hero) Evel Knievel is in the Guinness Book of World Records for "Most Broken Bones"...  and was also The Greatest Daredevil of All Time.

You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs...

Dawn in New Orleans.

Late night @ dba

Little Freddie King.  Fabulous blues guitarist.

As his web site says:

One of the last great country blues players, Little Freddie King...lives the blues. He stays in a run-down apartment, in a deteriorating neighborhood, with a domineering wife. He rides a rickety bicycle which he calls his "two wheel cadillac" several miles to and from a downtown garage, where he rebuilds alternators. He is tormented by ulcers and headaches, but playing his cheap pawn shop guitars always makes him feel a little better at the end of the day."  Jeff Hannusch (Offbeat Magazine)
