watched some of the memorial service this afternoon. Tremendous eulogy by Jay Paterno. And the lone Blue Band trumpet player playing "Hail to the Lion" as a mournful funeral dirge... Well done Penn State. I know I speak for my Dad too when I quote one of the student signs that lined the funeral procession path, "WE ARE because YOU WERE." God bless Coach... and thanks.

Kicking it Poolside
A weekend of firsts: his first wedding and his first bee sting. All went better than hoped. Also installed the second car seat and had it inspected by the police. (Successfully.)

Chipmunk Safari
As a result of a massive chipmunk problem, my beloved father-in-law is slowly descending in to madness. He's becoming Carl the Groundskeeper - Bill Murray's character from "Caddyshack."
So he dusted off some 30+ year old pellet guns and we went to town. I had 5 confirmed kills, 2 suspected / wounded, and a few pelts as shown here.
(A word about gun safety... Despite appearances, Leighton's hand is nowhere near the actual barrel. Also, the gun is unloaded. And the safety is on. Always keep the safety on - release it to fire, and then immediately put the gun back on safe. We take gun safety very seriously in our household, what with "Two-Gun Charity out of Missoula" as matriarch and "Leighton, The Laredo Kid" as Number One Son.)
