Bill Kirchen

Thanks to invite from David (NYPL - Ret.) I caught Bill Kirchen at the Rodeo Bar. Wow... Just spectacular. As David said, "He looks like a cross between Roy Orbison and Woody Allen." And somehow that's just about right. Unbelievable guitar work and a tremendous sense of humor. Did a great medley to close out his first set with a song about driving down the rock n' roll highway, and passing by all the greats. And would play his guitar in their style if it was Hendrix or Stevie Ray, or do some of their songs if it was say... his (Michigan) high school classmate Iggy Pop. (!!) Just a great, great talent and a great show. During this song he played the licks of and named, "Passed by The King [and played an Elvis lick], B. B. King, Albert King... Billie Jean King!" and made a tennis racquet sound with his guitar. Hilarious & talented, with quite the mixed bag of songs in his repertoire.
